Representational Similarity of Body Parts in Human Occipitotemporal Cortex.
Regions in human lateral and ventral occipitotemporal cortices (OTC) respond selectively to pictures of the human body and its parts. What are the organizational principles underlying body part responses in these regions? Here we used representational similarity analysis (RSA) of fMRI data to test multiple possible organizational principles: shape similarity, physical proximity, cortical homunc...
متن کاملThe representation of subordinate shape similarity in human occipitotemporal cortex.
We investigated the coding of subordinate shape similarity in human object-selective cortex in two event-related functional magnetic resonance adaptation (fMR-A) experiments. Previous studies using faces have concluded that there is a narrow tuning of neuronal populations selective to each face, and that tuning is relative to the expected "average" face (norm-based encoding). Here we investigat...
متن کاملTopographic Representation of the Human Body in the Occipitotemporal Cortex
Large-scale topographic representations of the body have long been established in the somatosensory and motor cortices. Using functional imaging, we identified a topographically organized body part map within the occipitotemporal cortex (OTC), with distinct clusters of voxels showing clear preference for different visually presented body parts. This representation was consistent both across hem...
متن کاملRepresentational parts
In this reply we claim that, contra Dreyfus, the kinds of skillful performances Dreyfus discusses are representational. We explain this proposal, and then defend it against an objection to the effect that the representational notion we invoke is a weak one countenancing only some global state of an organism as a representation. According to this objection, such a representation is not a robust,...
متن کاملExamining Representational Similarity in ConvNets and the Primate Visual Cortex
We compare several ConvNets with different depth and regularization techniques with multi-unit macaque IT cortex recordings and assess the impact of the same on representational similarity with the primate visual cortex. We find that with increasing depth and validation performance, ConvNet features are closer to cortical IT representations.
